Teaching & Advising Interests
- 1994-present Instruction
VTMB 271, Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals (average class size 50)
This is a foundation course for learning and understanding whole body systems as they apply to domestic animals
including the horse, ruminants, pigs, dogs and cats. The course is required for undergraduate students at
Montana State University enrolled in the following degree programs: Biotechnology, Animal Systems option;
Preveterinary Medicine; Animal Science, all options and Agricultural Education, all options.
VTMB 470, Individual Research Projects (Average class size 4-6)
The course is restricted entry to undergraduate students at Montana State University who have completed VTMB
271. Students learn how to assist in laboratory dissection, set up and grade lab and lecture exams, provide
additional independent instruction outside assigned lab times, and review lab handouts for students enrolled in
VTMB 271.
VTMB 476, Internship (average class size 1-5)
The course is restricted entry to undergraduate students at MSU interested in an individualized assignment
arranged with a veterinarian to provide guided experience in the field of veterinary medicine.
- 1994-present Academic Advising
Academic advising for students interested in preveterinary medicine includes exploration and selection
of relevant coursework, selection of an appropriate degree, employment in veterinary hospitals and internship
opportunities. It also includes preparation of veterinary school applications, preparation for GRE's, obtaining
satisfactory letters of recommendations and keeping students informed of WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for
Higher Education) program requirements. I have increased student numbers in the program from 68 in 1994 to a current total of 134.

Attend meetings twice monthly
Organize the Preveterinary Club Team to participate in the Agricultural Quadrathalon each year from 1996 to
present. The Preveterinary Club Team took first place and went on to attend the Western Regional Competition
event where they won the lab practical event in 1999.
Organized fundraisers and community service events.
Accompanied the club on annual campus visits to veterinary schools

Increased enrollment in the club from 10 members in 1997 to 30 members in 1998.
